Yesterday I had a complete panic attack about my working holiday. I researched flats and practical things all day, and ended up having to log off all devices and give myself a time out. Because I was hysterical and crying and hahahahahhaha what am I doing.

My roller derby future seemed sort of up in the air after the minimum skills test early in December. I caught a really bad cold afterwards, and was down for the count for the rest of the season. I swear, I was telling myself I'd remember to do daily little updates about other things than derby, but time keeps getting away from me.

Here's a picture from Saturday's practice. We had our very first taste of actual roller derby. We ended the practice with 5 bouts of play. I am sure we all looked super adorable.

Yesterday was league practice. We did a lot of stuff, but I only really remember the hockey stops (which I'm apparently pretty good at????) and jumping (which I'm not all that good at, but really, really enjoy) ;D

Practice yesterday was really, really fun, but I had a very off day. I felt I handled the hitting drills a lot better last weekend. I struggled with my stance all through practice. Weird. I felt I kept making very basic mistakes, and it was embarrassing ( Read more... )

Tuesday's practice was a repetition of last Tuesday's practice, but without all the jammer specific drills. We covered the following:

• Knees over toes
• Crossover drills: jumping, one footed
• Crossovers at high speed
• Stopping and accelerating
• Hockey stops

Derby practice on Saturday was fun. There's only three weeks left until our minimum skills test now. I honestly don't think I'll be able to pass it, but that's okay. I'm having a lot of fun with the 101 course, and I wouldn't mind doing it again, if that's what it takes to have the minimums down ( Read more... )
